You knew it had to happen. Scanning and mobile devices had to intersect. In this case it is an app from Trimensional for the iPhone 4 that uses light from the phone to illuminate the subject from different angles, and some fancy math. It does not use stereo cameras, white light or laser scanners.
At this point, as Kit Eaton points out the device and the app are not really suited to the task, but given the limitations it produces some impressive results as you can see in this video. And does anyone have any doubts about the direction that this indicates? Thanks to Joseph Chumbley for the heads up.
