The Joint Agency Commercial Imagery Evaluation (JACIE) Team Announces its 2014 Workshop to be Held in Conjunction with the ASPRS 2014 Annual Conference
BETHESDA, Md., May 9, 2013 — The Joint Agency Commercial Imagery Evaluation (JACIE) team will hold the 2014 JACIE Workshop in conjunction with the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) Annual Conference in Louisville, Kentucky on March 23-27, 2014. The announcement was made by the JACIE team and keynote speaker Roberta Lenczowski (ASPRS Past President) during the workshop in Saint Louis, Missouri in April.
The 2014 JACIE Workshop will be held Wednesday through Friday, beginning on March 26 as a separate track at the ASPRS meeting. The program planning for JACIE and ASPRS will integrate some key speakers and highlights into a few ASPRS special and/or hot topics sessions. In addition, ASPRS will provide attendees to the JACIE Workshop the opportunity to register for a combined JACIE/ASPRS experience that will allow JACIE attendees to visit the ASPRS Conference Exhibit Hall, as well as ASPRS General and Technical Sessions, as time permits during the week of the JACIE Workshop.
Holding the JACIE Workshop in conjunction with the ASPRS Conference is a win-win for ASPRS and JACIE both technically and programmatically; the ability to allow Government and industry technical experts a common forum to discuss how to enhance the quality of remote sensing systems and data to better support societal need applications is invaluable, said JACIE spokesman Greg Stensaas, U.S. Geological Survey. This is a great opportunity to bring together the large government agencies with private industry and end users of the remote sensing data, said ASPRS President Elect Dr. Stewart Walker. Our exhibitors will be pleased to see the inclusion of the JACIE Workshop with the ASPRS Conference.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and the United States Geological Survey (USGS), and their associates and partners, are directly responsible for establishing and leading a unique interagency team of scientists and engineers who work together to evaluate and enhance the quality of remote sensing data for commercial and government use. This team is called the Joint Agency Commercial Imagery Evaluation (JACIE) team. This team works together to define, prioritize, assign, and assess civil and commercial image quality and jointly sponsors an annual JACIE Civil Commercial Imagery Evaluation workshop with participation support from the remote sensing calibration and validation science community.
