During the XXV ISPRS Congress in Toronto in July 2026, Trimble Applanix had the distinct honor of hosting 19 international delegates for an exclusive technical site visit at its global headquarters in Richmond Hill, Ontario. This visit provided an immersive look at the precision engineering, rigorous calibration, and advanced production processes that drive Trimble Applanix’s world-leading positioning and orientation technologies.

Joe Hutton, director of inertial technology at Trimble Applanix, talks to delegates from the ISPRS Congress during their visit to the company’s headquarters.
Delegates attended specialized technical presentations by industry experts Joe Hutton (director of inertial technology) and Kevin Andrews (director of air and land). These sessions offered a deep dive into the latest breakthroughs in mobile mapping and geospatial trends, effectively bridging the gap between theoretical research and real-world application.

The highlight of the visit was a guided tour through the heart of the company’s operations. Led by dedicated subject-matter experts, small groups explored the specialized labs and production environments, gaining a first-hand view of Trimble Applanix’s commitment to quality and innovation:
- Engineering Lab & Temp Chamber: Basil Allos showcased the environmental testing capabilities, demonstrating how Trimble Applanix ensures hardware reliability in extreme conditions.
- Rate Table Lab: Benjamin Brunson provided an inside look at the precision calibration performed on sensors.
- Production Lab: Réjean Vallée demonstrated manufacturing workflows, highlighting the craftsmanship that goes into every Trimble Applanix unit.
- Test Van Walkthrough: Basil Allos concluded the tour with a walkthrough of the mobile mapping test van, illustrating the hardware in an active, integrated environment.
The program concluded with a dynamic wrap-up session before delegates returned to the convention. The company is proud to share that during the Saturday closing ceremony, the ISPRS Congress Director, Professor Derek Lichti from the Universtiy of Calgary, announced that the Trimble Applanix visit had received the highest feedback scores of all technical tours offered during the Congress – a testament to the value that Trimble Applanix provided to its guests.
Trimble Applanix thanks all participants for making this event a definitive highlight of the 2026 ISPRS Congress and looks forward to continued collaboration with the global geospatial community.
