McKim & Creed Expands Aerial Mapping Services with Addition of UAS Lidar & Imagery System

Cutting-edge technology enhances capabilities for leading engineering and geospatial firm

Raleigh, N.C. – In an effort to continue providing unique and highly accurate survey solutions to its clients, McKim & Creed recently added the WingtraOne GEN II with lidar and imagery sensors to its fleet of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) further enhancing its aerial mapping capabilities.

Wingtra Liar

This Swiss manufactured fixed-wing Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) aircraft offers extended flight endurance to efficiently support wide area topographic mapping. The aircraft can be equipped with sensors used to acquire high-density airborne lidar and high-resolution digital imagery for a wide range of project requests and deliverables.

“After extensive independent testing using industry recognized best practices for aerial mapping and following the ASPRS Positional Accuracy Standards (2014), we are excited to offer this technology as part of a solutions-based approach to meet the needs of projects our clients trust us with,” said Ravi Soneja, McKim & Creed UAS Program Manager. “This system will enable us to efficiently acquire lidar and imagery for sites upwards of 1,000 acres in a single day. What this translates to for our clients is reduced time and effort in the field, with faster turnaround of final products to keep their projects on schedule.”

McKim & Creed is one of the first geospatial firms in the United States to take delivery of Wingtra’s newly integrated lidar sensor. This technology along with McKim & Creed’s depth of knowledge and experience in the acquisition and processing of airborne lidar and imagery allows our team to provide unique solutions to our clients while maintaining and delivering quality, accuracy, and consistency.

“Our goal is to provide the most accurate data to our clients as quickly and as cost effective as possible,” said David Jones, McKim & Creed’s Geomatics Senior Vice President. “By adding the WingtraOne GEN II, as an additional drone to our aerial mapping program, it will enable us to be more responsive to our clients’ needs.
