Last week, Congress heard about surveying, mapping, and geospatial legislation when the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources of the House Committee on Natural Resources invited John “JB” Byrd to testify at a hearing on H.R. 5522, the Federal Land Asset Inventory Reform (FLAIR) Act, and H.R. 3681, the Sinkhole Mapping Act. Byrd submitted a full written statement and provided and appeared in person to deliver testimony (video segment 1:09:55-1:15:40), while fielding a question (Video Segment 2:38:15-2:39:40) from Subcommittee Chairman Alan Lowenthal (D-CA) and directing a portion of his answer to Subcommittee Ranking Member Pete Stauber (R-MN). He highlighted the role of the geospatial profession for both bills and promoted the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP).
