Mapix technologies Expands its LiDAR Portfolio with LeddarTech LiDAR Sensors

Leddar M16 Lidar

Leddar M16 solid state flash LiDAR now available from Mapix technologies.

11th December 2019 – LeddarTech® industry leader in LiDAR technology who provides the most versatile and scalable auto and mobility LiDAR platform™ in the market have officially appointed Mapix technologies, based in Edinburgh, Scotland, as their LiDAR module distribution partner for the UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg.

LeddarTech LiDAR modules are innovative, robust and compact and able to detect, locate and measure a wide range of objects. These sensors are ideal for applications where close-range object detection and avoidance is critical, such as in autonomous shuttles, robotaxis, delivery vehicles, traffic monitoring, security systems and robotics.

LeddarTech’s sensor suite includes 2D and 3D flash LiDAR’s, illuminating the field of view in a single pulse from one light source. This solid-state technology means LeddarTech sensors do not have any moving parts, increasing robustness and enabling cost-effective mass production of automotive-grade LiDAR’s. With the use of independent detection segments, LeddarTech solid-state flash LiDAR’s also means there are no dead zones in the illuminated field of view, ensuring a high probability that even the smallest objects are detected.

LeddarTech sensors provide versatility and reliability, working in different lighting conditions, day or night with low power consumption and simple integration.

Mapix technologies already distribute the full range of Velodyne LiDAR scanners for the same territories. Mapix began offering the LeddarTech M16, Vu8 and IS16 LiDAR products in December 2019.

Emma Thomas, Mapix technologies Strategic Director added, “LeddarTech complements our existing range of LiDAR sensors perfectly, the LiDAR technology and industry is evolving and there is a growing demand for sensors that can fulfil a very specific requirement for a customer, LeddarTech sensors can meet that need. Both Mapix and LeddarTech have over ten years’ experience with LiDAR, so our experience is well proven. It has been interesting to see the development of solid-state LiDAR, and we are looking forward to continuing to grow the range of sensors available from LeddarTech during 2020.”

Gert Riemersma, founder and CTO of Mapix technologies, commented, “We have found that many of our customers are looking for reliable, compact LiDAR sensors. For example, with autonomous shuttles, the primary mechanical LiDAR sensor mounted on the vehicle roof may create some close-quarter blind spots. In a situation like this, a few small, robust LeddarTech sensors are ideal for detecting objects such as pedestrians close to the vehicle, cost-effectively adding increased safety.”

Adrian Pierce, Vice-President, Global Sales and Business Development from LeddarTech said, “With Mapix technologies’ experience with LiDAR, understanding of customers needs and existing industry relationships they are an ideal partner for us. They also have a great deal of experience in providing excellent customer service and dealing with logistical matters such as the import of goods across borders and effectively handling customs processes.”
