USIBD Announces White Paper for Selecting a Building Documentation Professional

The U.S. Institute of Building Documentation (USIBD) is pleased to publish its first white paper, Building Better Within Existing Conditions. This paper’s purpose is to help determine whether it makes sense to hire a Building Documentation Professional and, if so, how to go about selecting them.

Because it can be challenging keeping up with the latest technologies coming to the construction technology market that tout making point clouds easier to work with, we want to help you make sense of what’s out there, and offer suggestions on how to choose the right professional for your project. This document will help provide guidance in specifying a method for procuring point cloud data, depending on your use case. This paper will share some common workflows many people in the industry have come to rely on for processing 3D point cloud data.

This 3-part paper is organized as follows:

The paper is available for downloaded at no charge from USIBD’s Resources page on the website here.

Later this year, USIBD plans to publish a list of its members who provide Professional Build Documentation services in Resources on the USIBD website.
