Nottingham, UK, 15 September 2014 – Colin Thomson has joined 3D Laser Mapping as Technical Director for Mining & Monitoring. Colin joins 3D Laser Mapping from September 2014 to take responsibility for the technical strategy for the mining and monitoring activities of the UK-based supplier of laser scanning hardware and software.
Due to the ongoing expansion and successes the business has achieved in the past twelve months, including a number of major product launches, we are expanding the senior management in this area of activity, commented Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. Colin is well known in the African market as a knowledgeable professional in the field of geotechnical monitoring systems. I am confident that he will make a significant contribution to what we can offer our clients in the forthcoming months and years.
I believe one of the key aspects of our ongoing success has been our ability to listen to and respond to the needs of our user community. As we continue to grow it is critical that we maintain these core values and tailor our monitoring systems to the needs of the market.
Colin Thomson has significant experience working in the geomatics and monitoring sector in Southern Africa. He spent 15 years surveying in various disciplines after qualification as an engineering surveyor and 15 years as a product manager for mining and monitoring systems. For the past 7 years, he has operated Proudafrique, a company specialising in slope stability monitoring systems for mining. This business will be transferred to 3D Laser Mapping.
Muele Radzilani, Proudafrique’s Geotechnical Support Engineer, joins 3D Laser Mapping alongside Colin. She graduated in 2010 with a degree in Engineering Geology from the University of KwaZulu Natal.
This is an excellent opportunity for me personally and for 3D Laser Mapping, its customers and business partners, added Colin Thomson. I am really excited to be guiding the company as we move forward in the next stages of our development and know that I can count on the support of staff and colleagues within the industry.
