Hallowell, Maine August 12, 2014 – Blue Marble Geographics (bluemarblegeo.com) is pleased to announce the release of GeoCalc 7.0 in a fully managed .NET version. This release features a new polygon Area of Use extension to the datasource, updated US NGS’s VDatum tidal datum model, and new concatenated coordinate transform class for more flexible and powerful transformations. Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.
GeoCalc is a fully object-oriented class library for software developers. The fully managed .NET version of GeoCalc streamlines the development process as 32 and 64 bit compatibility issues are handled entirely by Visual Studio. This fully managed SDK is built on Microsoft’s 4.0 .NET architecture. This means all of the memory management details are handled entirely by the .NET virtual machine and the CLR (Common Language Runtime). Using this standard Windows framework increases security, performance, and usability for anyone working inside the latest Microsoft development environments. This leading coordinate transformation "engine" for converting data from one coordinate system to another and for performing advanced geodetic calculations is ideal for GPS, surveying, engineering or mapping programs.
GeoCalc 7.0 fully managed .NET version features a new polygon Area of Use extension to the datasource. This new functionality includes updating the Envelope data type to Area of Use as well as introducing a new map interface into the transformation selection dialog, providing a display for polygons that can be used for selecting transformations, and the ability to filter results based on detailed area definitions identified by the user. These polygons put a powerful tool for selecting the best geographic reference systems and transformation at the user’s fingertips. The "Area of Use" extension also gives direct access to the underlying raw point datasets contained within the polygon, allowing developers to create an interface for users to visually see on a map where a coordinate system or transformation is intended to be used.
This release also features added support for the NOAA-NGS VDatum system allowing for tidal vertical references along the US coast. This tidal model is primarily used in the United States for marine gridding, sea surface modeling and other coastal projects. This is the first tidal datum available in any of Blue Marbles SDK products. Additionally, a new concatenated coordinate transform class has been added for more flexible and powerful multi-step horizontal and vertical transformations. This enhancement includes a new vertical coordinate system model, conforming to the EPSG Vertical CRS and transformation definitions. This allows dynamic selection of vertical transformations and provides users with flexible transformation options when working with high accuracy elevation-based data.
