Erik Wirring, senior strategist at the CAD and surveying software department, Landinspektrfirmaet LE34, said, We are heavily involved in delivering attribute-rich data to a variety of clients. The new application owned business property API in Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) will allow us to create custom attributes beyond the capabilities provided. Also, new API controlled symbology features will let us produce custom displays not possible with conventional GIS tools. These new features will enable us to meet customers’ requirements in a more cost effective way.
Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) is scheduled for release by the end of 2013. Bentley Map is the choice of infrastructure professionals around the globe for the creation of reliable and realistic 3D GIS models in support of engineering decision making. The forthcoming Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) offering will further improve user productivity and increase the value of external data supported by Bentley Map, as a result of enhanced visualization capabilities, improved interoperability, and support of Oracle Spatial.
Advance Look at Capabilities and Benefits
Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) will include the following new capabilities and benefits:
-
superior interoperability
-
By enabling users to leverage Esri file-based geodatabases (with added support for point, linear, and polygon data types, including arcs), the value of this data to them increases. In addition, productivity is enhanced since the data can now be used for project-related work, and work sharing is improved since contractors who must deliver data in the Esri file format can now be included in collaborative workflows.
-
Through its use of the CityGML schema, Bentley Map will support material/textures on import/export with FME.
-
enhanced mapping
-
The improvement of cartographic representation will include:
-
multi-part linear symbology to better represent linear features with intersection management (i.e., intersection cleanup and priority display for crossing lines, for improved map finishing)
-
support for bridge display, in which segments can be noted as bridges with configured width
-
The provision of dynamic criteria for improved scale-dependent display means features can display differently depending on view scale. For example, zooming in may show a fire hydrant or water meter as a symbol while zooming out may show it only as a dot.
-
Improved visualization capabilities will increase user productivity.
-
Oracle Spatial improvements
-
Improvements in texture support, better 3D queries, composite primary keys, and so on will increase the ROI on Oracle Spatial data, saving users time and costs by not having to get new data or convert existing data. Specific enhancements include support of:
-
Oracle Spatial textures
-
Non-top view queries of 3D data
-
Oracle 12c (B-Spline curves and non-circular arcs)
-
Composite (multiple columns) primary key
-
Views as sub-features
-
API improvements
-
Improved API in Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 4) will enable subject-matter experts to customize Bentley Map so that users can make better decisions.
-
Business properties will be maintained by a custom application. For example, up-to-date traffic counts could be provided on demand for a segment of roadway, thereby improving the quality of analysis.
-
Symbology will be able to be directly driven by the application. For example, map display could depict real-time flow rates for a water network, consequently improving the understanding of the infrastructure data.
