Hamilton, Ontario July 8, 2013 In his recent Riegl LiDAR 2013 keynote entitled Welcome to the Future, GeoDigital CEO Alastair Jenkins provided the audience in Vienna, Austria with a lessons learned look at the past, as well as his expert opinion on where the LiDAR and remote sensing industry is likely to go in the future. As one of the true industry pioneers the audience was certainly very interested in what CEO Jenkins had to say since he is in a key position to help turn these predictions into reality.
Jenkins main theme looking out to 2025 was the World in 3D. I think the future of our industry will be no longer about mapping, but sophisticated, personalized location based services. We will each have access to the world in 3D – online, and available anywhere, any time with automated wearable computers (like Google Glasses), driverless cars, 3D search, automated construction and of course the next generation of survey and mapping sensors, explained CEO Jenkins.
Jim Van Rens, Riegl USA President remarked that, Riegl Lidar 2013 was excited to be able to have Alastair Jenkins as the keynote speaker. There are few individuals that have the experience and perspective to be able to encapsulate where the industry has come from and to be able to thread the needle of its future direction. Alastairs speech was an exciting vision of the future and an important data point for future efforts.. CEO Jenkins noted that It was an honor to be a part of this important and valuable experience.
CEO Jenkins also announced that GeoDigital is the first to purchase the just announced Riegl LMS-Q1560. This next generation airborne LiDAR scanner is designed to provide ultra wide, area/high altitude mapping such as required for complex urban environments. CEO Jenkins commented that, This sensor is going to provide us with the ability to complete projects faster and more cost effectively, which will be of significant benefit to our customers.
