3D Systems welcomes Geomagic!

Earlier today, 3D Systems announced that it had completed its acquisition of Geomagic. On behalf of all of us at 3D Systems, I am pleased to welcome the Geomagic team (including the Sensable Group) into the 3D Systems organization!
Geomagics powerful 3D capabilities allow customers to capture, design, modify, inspect and interact, further expanding 3D Systems portfolio, which includes Rapidform software, 3D printers, materials, global services, consumer products and other complementary software solutions. This rich combination brings together an unparalleled portfolio of 3D software solutions that serve designers, engineers, medical modelers, manufacturers and educators throughout the entire design and development process — through to manufacturing. We are also excited by the Geomagic Sensable haptic devices, with their ability to explore the digital world using 3D touch.

Ping Fu, Geomagics co-founder and former CEO, will become 3D Systems Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer. She will work closely with Calvin Hur, Vice President and General Manager of Computer Aided Tools, along with me and the rest of the 3D Systems management team to bring new and exciting products to market.

1. What benefits will I have with Geomagic being part of 3D Systems?

With Geomagic as part of 3D Systems, you will have access to complementary 3D products, technologies and worldwide channels. There is a large opportunity for 3D content creation and advanced manufacturing solutions to be developed, and as part of a larger company, well have the talent and financial resources to lead the industry with innovative offerings.

2.How does the depth and breadth of the combined Rapidform and Geomagic offerings benefit me?

In the immediate term, you will have access to a broader global footprint for pre- and post-sales support, plus more access to the products through a broader network of resellers and sales experts. The product lines are quite complementary, and now youll have access to the solution that best meets your needs — not just the one that your local reseller sells. For example, Rapidform XOR is especially well-suited to creating CAD models for history-based CAD environments, while Geomagic Spark enables easy scanning and modeling for non-CAD experts. Geomagic Freeform complements both Rapidform XOR and Spark, because its an organic modeling solution while the others are more geometric. Longer term, the acquisition offers a larger, world-class R&D organization that will bring better products to market faster. Well be able to be more responsive to your needs and create innovative solutions to solve your problems.

3. What happens to my products? Will they continue to be developed and supported?

3D Systems plans to continue to enhance and support both Rapidform and Geomagic products. Simultaneously, the combined R&D resources of Rapidform and Geomagic will work to develop the next generation of software for 3D scanning, reverse engineering, inspection and interaction. Future products will amaze and delight you, while supporting your existing workflows and processes.

4.Should I renew maintenance on my software?

Absolutely! This will ensure that you not only have the most up-to-date versions of our current products, but also provide you with a seamless path to the future.

5.Who should I contact for sales support? For technical support?

You should continue to work with your existing reseller or sales manager. If you are interested in exploring another product in the portfolio, your sales contact will be able to arrange that. For technical support, you can rely on your existing support teams for Rapidform and/or Geomagic products.
