National Land Survey of Finland Deploys Bentley Geo Web Publisher to Serve Maps On Demand to All Citizens

Software Provides Scalable Platform for High-volume Web GIS Environments, Along With Ease of Use and Low Cost of Ownership

EXTON, Pa., U.S.A. Jan. 23, 2013 Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced that the National Land Survey of Finland has deployed Bentley Geo Web Publisher, together with a Smallworld GIS and open source software, to serve maps free of charge to the citizens of Finland. The National Land Survey has used Bentley Geo Web Publisher for years because of the softwares ability to handle a large volume of website visits, its ease of deployment and use, and its low cost of ownership, with no programming or development required.

Kirsi Mkinen, product group manager, National Land Survey of Finland, said, At the National Land Survey of Finland our mission is to deliver mapping information to our citizens to help them in their everyday lives, as well as to help generate entrepreneurial activity using geospatial information that will advance the economy of Finland. To support this new service we looked long and hard at the software we needed, and we have ended up deploying an advanced combination of open source and commercial software.

Mkinen continued, Offering topographic data for free is actually nothing new for us. Our topographic maps have been available for browsing free of charge since 1995. Our Mapsite was the first nationwide Internet-based map service provided by a national mapping agency in Europe. For this service we have relied on Bentley for years.

Richard Zambuni, Bentley global marketing director, geospatial and utilities, added, Bentley Geo Web Publisher is the perfect platform for high-volume web GIS environments, and we are gratified that the National Land Survey of Finland has made use of the product in their innovative and citizen-centric offering of maps to all users free of charge.

Zambuni continued, Other representative users of Bentley Geo Web Publisher around the globe include the City of Mississauga, Crossrail, Philadelphia Water Department, Saudi Telecom, the Port of Brisbane, the Port of Long Beach, Honduras Land Registry Project (PATH), Urzad Marszalkowski Wojewodztwa Dolnoslaskiego, and the City of Maastricht.

Bentley Geo Web Publisher allows users to take advantage of high-performance publishing to integrate a variety of data sources, to author and administer web sites, and to maximize the value of geospatial information. Bentley Geo Web Publisher enables a wide range of applications such as national, provincial, or municipal geospatial information systems, image or drawing archives, map-based navigational sites, project sites, and public information portals. Integrated vector and image server engines publish hybrid vector/raster datasets and a wide range of formats, making it easy to incorporate drawings, maps, models, aerial photography, and other images within custom browser presentations.
