EDF signs major contract extension for AVEVA Plant portfolio

Leading energy player invests in AVEVA integrated software for fast, efficient diagrams creation, 3D modelling and data consistenc

Paris, France – 7 November 2012: AVEVA announced today that Electricit De France (EDF) has expanded its investment in AVEVA technology by implementing additional engineering software products from the AVEVA Plant portfolio. AVEVA Diagrams will provide EDF with a fast and efficient solution for creating P&IDs and HVAC diagrams. AVEVA Schematic 3D Integrator will enable integrated working between the P&ID and the 3D model. Together, these will drastically reduce the man-hours EDF spend on ensuring data consistency.

"EDF began working with AVEVA in the 1980s when we first installed AVEVA PDMS for 3D design. This is the latest step in our long relationship" said Bruno Pentori, Head of CAD Department, EDF. "We require software tools that can deliver our engineering requirements and seamlessly integrate with existing 3D models and designs. AVEVA’s integrated solutions will support the final phase of the Flamanville EPR project and will be used to start the detailed design of the EPR projects in the UK. AVEVA has enabled us to standardize on a single integrated technology platform for P&IDs and 3D design. This has already proven to be an efficient solution to respond quickly to the Engineering Division’s key requirements, which include implementing modern user-friendly tools, efficient 2D/3D comparison and open solutions to quickly customize catalogues and configuration. We are very pleased with the initial results of the new implementation and the strengthening partnership we are building with AVEVA."

Laurent Perry, CAD Tools Suite project manager, EDF added, "This is a very strategic contract. In addition to the use of the new AVEVA Plant software within EDF, its use will also be mandated for all EDF subcontractors. It is key to manage the flow of schematics and 3D engineering data between all parties involved in the design and construction process."

"EDF already works in a complex space, so it does not want its 3D engineering and design technology to create more challenges", added Fredy Ktourza, Senior Vice President – West EMEA, AVEVA. "We worked closely with EDF in order to ensure our software is configured to meet their specific requirements. They will now be able to work between the various models using an Integrated Engineering & Design approach. EDF can operate safely in the knowledge they have access to proven, world-class data management, ensuring the integrity and quality of their complex major capital projects."

All AVEVA Plant products are part of AVEVA’s Integrated Engineering & Design approach which improves project efficiency and reduces engineering and design costs by offering complementary products that draw on common processes, disciplines and deliverables, through a single managed information model.
