Archaeological Survey Technologies, Data Integration, and Applications (ASTDA) Seminar

The ASTDA seminar is the second part of a grant that focuses on the application of non-invasive mapping and recording technologies including: archaeological geophysical surveys (ground penetrating radar, magnetic gradient, resistance, and conductivity), 3D laser scanning, for the integration of the buried and standing archaeological site record within its broader landscape.

SEMINAR

Registration $50, lunch and site tours included

Targeted at historic property developers, managers, and educators. We encourage participation from (but not limited to) the following groups: property developers, land surveyors, architects, Cultural Resource Management managers, historic property managers, NPS property managers, Historic Commission representatives, public outreach societies, and educators.

Registration deadline October 14, 2011

Held at the Longfellow House – Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site, Cambridge, MA

General Washingtons headquarters during the Siege of Boston and home to poet Henry W. Longfellow.

The ASTDA seminar is tailored to provide specific knowledge transfer to three distinct groups intrinsic to historic site preservation: (1) Property Managers; (2) Public Outreach Organizations; and (3) Property Developers. The seminar will focus on presenting each of the three stages in creation of the 3D property models (data capture, processing, and fusion) and how to use this innovative visualization of integrated data for their particular needs.

The seminar will be led by Dr. Meg Watters (Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, Brown University), Stephen Wilkes (Feldman 3D) and Dr. Steven Pendery (NPS).

The seminar will conclude with a panel discussion on non-invasive technologies introduced in the seminar. The panel will discuss and debate this approach to historic property management through 3D visualization methods. Participants will be invited to join the discussion at the end of the panel.

Moderator – Dr Steven Pendery

Discussants: Michael Feldman, Harry R. Feldman Survey, Inc.; Ellen Berkland – Department of Conservation and Recreation, MA; Nina – Paul Revere Memorial Association ; Meg Watters – Brown University
