Scott Shepard at Autodesk Labs recently announced that the Shape Extraction preview for AutoCAD 2011 has been updated. This tool is an intelligent point cloud shape extraction solution which allows you to import, load, and extract shape and geometry information from point cloud data in AutoCAD 2011. It will also work with Architecture, Civil 3D and Plant as long as they are using ACAD 2011.
I have not seen any news on the Feature Extraction preview for Civil 3D that had to be withdrawn a few weeks ago. Supposedly this was going to be updated and released again.
With the 2012 product releases right around the corner it will be interesting to see how much of the Labs technology makes it into the new products, and whether there will be any point cloud support in Revit.
