Heerbrugg/San Ramon, 27th March 2006 — Leica Geosystems announces at the SPAR2006 conference in Houston, TX the immediate availability of Leica CloudWorx 1.0 for PDMS. This powerful and easy-to-learn point cloud solution is designed for PDMS users who want to take full advantage of accurate, laser scan as-built data directly in PDMS.
Leica CloudWorx 1.0 for PDMS is the latest addition to the Leica CloudWorx suite of products that enable professionals to use rich, as-built point cloud data directly in their native desktop design and visualization platform. PDMS is part of AVEVAs VANTAGE Plant Design family.
Key features and capabilities of Leica CloudWorx 1.0 for PDMS include:
Measure Using PDMS own measuring tools
Automated clash checking – Using PDMS built-in clash management and reporting tools
PDMS Design Point (D-Point) placement – At pick point or center-of-pipe, D-Point placement lets users create intelligent as-built models directly in PDMS using catalog components and objects
Easy point cloud management By Scan, Limit Box, Cutplane slices and sections, Hide Region
Supports a variety of laser scanners Including native data formats from Leica Geosystems scanners, the industrys most popular scanners
CloudWorx toolbars Access CloudWorx operations easily, conveniently, and fast
Visualize a new design concept directly in context with reality
Beta User, Aker Kvaerner, Reports Major Benefits
Beta user Steve Barnett, Design Systems Coordinator for Aker Kvaerner, Australia, states: Leica CloudWorx for PDMS is a designers delight. The combination of CloudWorx and PDMS has enabled us to bring the plant right into our city offices and to design knowing that things will fit snugly together during construction. By using CloudWorx and PDMS together to navigate a new PDMS design within a Pointcloud of the existing facilities, we have been able to minimise site visits, improve safety, investigate better design options, improve design accuracy and eliminate clashes. The Leica Geosystems software also has some pretty smart routines that give designers the ability to fit new geometry directly onto the point clouds, thus quickly enabling a PDMS as-built model to be created in native format. Aker Kvaerner Australia plans to use Laser Scanning and Leica CloudWorx for PDMS extensively on our future retrofit projects.
High Accuracy plus High Performance
Leica CloudWorx for PDMS is based on Leica Geosystems long proven database-centric Cyclone point cloud foundation, which allows users to simultaneously benefit from state-of-the-art spatial accuracy and high performance point cloud management.
Powerful Point Cloud Management & Measurement in PDMS
Leica CloudWorx for PDMS provides several ways to quickly, efficiently, and effectively manage vast amounts of point cloud data. User named and defined Cutplane Slices and Half-Space Sections and/or Limit Boxes provide a quick and easy way to navigate point cloud data; these selections can be recalled as needed on demand. Measurements are taken using familiar PDMS measuring tools.
Automated Point Cloud Clash Detection and Reporting Using PDMS
Clash detecting against point clouds with Leica CloudWorx is performed using PDMS own automated clashing and reporting tools. Users can automatically detect clashes between modeled objects and point clouds, based on a users own defined tolerance settings. All interfering points within a user-defined region are visually highlighted and itemized.
Supports Multiple Scanner Formats
Leica CloudWorx for PDMS lets AVEVA users take advantage of spatial scan data from any laser scanner via industry-standard ASCII-based data formats. In addition, Leica CloudWorx for PDMS directly accepts, without any data format conversion, compact native data formats from the industrys most popular scanners. These include all models of Leica Geosystems High-Definition Surveying (HDS) time-of-flight and phase-based laser scanners, all Cyra scanners, and selected scanners from other vendors. This capability to accept native formats from the industrys most popular scanners provides users with even higher overall system efficiencies and simpler workflows.
Capitalizing on the Leica and AVEVA Strategic Collaborative Alliance
Following on our previously announced Strategic Collaborative Alliance with Leica Geosystems for developing laser scanning solutions, we are delighted with the news of the full commercial release of Leica CloudWorx for PDMS at SPAR2006, states Neil McPhater, Business Strategy Special Projects Manager at AVEVA. Beta testing feedback from a number of trial sites worldwide has been excellent and we continue to look forward to a closer relationship between AVEVA a worldwide leader in engineering IT solutions for the process, power and shipbuilding industries and Leica Geosystems, who are widely recognized as the leader in the scanning industry.
