Leica Unveils New Leica CloudWorx for AVEVA PDMS Solution for AVEVA’s New Laser Scanning Interface

High-Definition Survey Data Used for 3D Retrofit Design Directly in AVEVA’s VANTAGE PDMS

Houston, TX, May 23, 2005 Following up on a Strategic Collaborative Alliance for developing laser scanning solutions, Leica Geosystems (www.hds.leica-geosystems.com) and AVEVA (LSE:AVV) have jointly announced Leica CloudWorx for AVEVA PDMS.

This new software application integrates with AVEVAs powerful Plant Design Management System (PDMS) to enable AVEVAs many customers to take advantage of Leicas industry-leading point cloud technology directly. Here, users can easily review, clash, measure and modify proposed retrofit designs based on accurate geometry of existing conditions as captured by High-Definition Surveying (a.k.a. laser scanning). The net benefit is better overall project results.

Previously, in order to take advantage of Leica High-Definition Survey (HDS) data, Leica point cloud software and PDMS design models, PDMS users had to apply various import/export tools and data format converters in conjunction with another standalone Leica application, Cyclone software. The new, integrated solution accesses PDMS directly through AVEVA’s new Laser Model Interface. Leica Geosystems is one of the first companies to take advantage of the new, open interface technology from AVEVA.

The first public demonstration of this powerful collaborative application is at the SPAR 2005 conference in Houston, TX, an industry event focused on laser scanning.

Visualize, Manage, and Clash Retrofit Designs with Point Clouds in PDMS
Leica CloudWorx for AVEVA PDMS enables users to effectively visualize, manage, and clash (i.e., check interferences of) proposed retrofit designs created in PDMS with as-built point cloud data in the same PDMS environment.

Users can take advantage of data captured by versatile time-of-flight (TOF) laser scanners and ultra high-speed phase-based laser scanners, including Leica HDS3000, HDS2500, and HDS4500 laser scanners, the industrys most popular, high-accuracy scanners for plant and marine applications.

Intuitive tools in the new application make it easy for users to access and manage laser scan databases with a convenient ScanWorld manager. Visualizing and selecting specific areas of point cloud data to submit to the PDMS interface is also made easy by handy user-defined limit boxes, cut planes, and cloud slices.

In addition to accurate measuring capabilities, users will also enjoy the benefits of clash detection and clash management based on AVEVAs advanced PDMS interference management technology, which includes both a visual display of clashes and a complete list of all clash locations.

Powerful, Versatile Database/Data Centric Foundation
The high performance and versatility of the new, collaborative Leica CloudWorx for AVEVA PDMS solution takes advantage of both the Object Database architecture of Leicas software technology and the data centric foundation of AVEVAs software technology. Together, these integrated foundations enable large point cloud databases as well as large, intelligent 3D models to be handled efficiently in the same user environment.
