New business paper outlines best practice for using laser surveying on plant revamp projects
Manchester, UK – 4 December 2012: AVEVA announced today the release of a new business paper listing the top five recommendations for effective plant revamps. AVEVA explains that not only should you be using the best possible laser scanning software technology, but a well-structured business process is absolutely essential to ensuring the most accurate and productive results. As with any tool, the quality of the result depends a great deal on the way in which it is applied and this new business paper outlines key considerations for companies deploying laser technology in the process plant and power industries.
AVEVA has come across instances where an asset owner has found that the reality of a laser-surveyed project did not match up to expectations said Bruce Douglas, Senior Vice-President, EDS Strategy & Marketing, AVEVA. Were confident that AVEVA offers the very best software in the market to reference laser scan data directly in the 3D design environment, and also for creating intelligent, accurate as-built 3D plant models from the laser scan data. Our experience shows that, in order to realise the maximum value from this technology, it is important to have a well-defined business process.
We have written this paper detailing five recommendations that we believe asset owners need to consider before they even start a laser scanning project. Weve seen how taking a more structured approach can dramatically improve the ability to create a true as-built plant representation, in either data or model form.
Mr Douglas added, Much of it comes down to the planning the project, the scan, and the installation. Along with the right tools and accurate deliverables, the key to a successful laser-enabled revamp is to understand what a laser survey can, and cannot achieve. Laser scanning provides an unrivalled degree of technical capability; and this is exactly what makes it so important to define and execute well-planned business processes to achieve maximum efficiency.
